Account Director
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am currently an Account Director for Intec looking after a number of accounts, predominantly in the UK but also in Sweden and Austria. I have been with Intec for over five years; I started off in Corporate Marketing and Strategy in Woking, then transferred to some sunshine in Product Management in Atlanta, but the sun can get boring after a while so moved back to Woking and recently transferred into sales and my current role.
Outside of work, my main interests are around sport in particular motor racing as well as suffering as a lifelong Warrington Rugby League supporter. I do also do a bit of sport as well as watching – I’m currently training to do a triathlon in aid of Macmillan Cancer, which Intec is kindly sponsoring me for. I also enjoy travelling – personal travels have taken me to all parts of the world including Australasia and South East Asia as well as the Americas. At Intec I have also been lucky to do jobs that have sent me to various parts of the world including Malaysia, Barbados and St.Kitts!
Why did you join Intec?
A friend of mine worked here and had positive things to say about the culture and it being a good fun place to work.
Share some of your experiences...
Intec provides the opportunity for people to move around the world if they so wish. I was asked to transfer to the Atlanta office and had a great three years over there. It developed me both professionally by working in the North American market but also personally – moving somewhere and not knowing a soul can be daunting (reminded me a bit of going to university!) but to get past that and make new friends and get to know a new culture was a very rewarding experience.
Describe a typical day...
In sales, we obviously should spend a lot of time out and visiting customers, and as I have a number that are local, this means I can get out to visit them regularly. When in the office, obviously sometimes there may be customer issues to deal with, but also trying to move new sales opportunities forward.
What is the culture like where you work?
The Woking office is quite young in its demographics, and there is a nice working relationship between everyone with hardly any politics – people are helpful and the main focus is on getting the job done.
What is the social life like in your area?
People do mix and go to the pub as well as organise special events and get-togethers – particularly in London.
What would you tell someone who was considering applying for a position at Intec?
If you want an easy life then don’t bother. But if you want a (positively) challenging and demanding environment to develop and grow in and have a can-do attitude - but also like a good laugh - then jump on board!
